What is a core charge?

What is a core charge?

If we had a dollar each time we were asked "what is a core charge or deposit?", I would be a millionaire. In short, a core charge is a deposit for the old car part that you are replacing.

In the auto parts industry, it is common to ask for a core or core deposit on rear axles (also known as differentials, rear ends), motors, transmissions, transfer cases, alternators, ac compressors, starters, brake calipers, power steering pumps, transfer cases, engine computers, aluminum wheels, and many more parts.

To avoid paying the core deposit is to have the old part at the time of purchase. In addition to avoiding the core deposit, the process is made much simpler by removing the hassle of having to return the part later.

At NRM Auto Parts, we charge an additional refundable core deposit. Once the core is returned to us complete, your deposit will be refunded. The core charge can range from $10 to $1,500, depending on the part. Please note the core has to be from the same vehicle the part was purchased from.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions on core deposits.
